The President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva has opened at the parliament an exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. A delegation from the Azerbaijan-Bulgaria friendship group at the parliament of Azerbaijan, led by its Chairman, Siavush Novruzov, is on a two-day visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of Remzi Osman, Chairman of the Friendship group Bulgaria – Azerbaijan.
At the meeting with the Azeri parliamentarians the Chair of the National Assembly noticed that Bulgaria and Azerbaijan have established a good legal and contractual framework opening opportunities for cooperation in many fields. The two countries have established an intensive program for cooperation, in which the parliaments of the two countries are playing strategic role. She expressed satisfaction with the present, consecutive meeting of the Friendship groups of the two legislatures.
Later on, the Speaker of the National Assembly has opened a thematic exhibition marking the 20th year since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Tsetska Tsacheva pointed out that the idea for an exposition about the anniversary had come before the visit of the Bulgarian parliamentary delegation to Azerbaijan in May 2012. During the visit I understood that the idea of the Azerbaijani friends in the Bulgarian parliament is shared by representatives of the Milli Majlis (the parliament of Azerbaijan). I am satisfied that soon after our return we had been able to invite members of your Friendship group and to arrange, with the assistance of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Sofia, the present exposition, President Tsacheva underscored.
The Chairman of the Friendship group Azerbaijan-Bulgaria, Siavush Novruzov, noted that even though the current exhibition marks the 20th anniversary of the official establishment of the diplomatic relations, their roots stand deeper. The exhibition shows a document, dating back to 1918, testifying to official relations between the two countries. He expressed confidence that the latter will continue to develop as actively as at present.
The exhibition displays 12 panels, which follow the chronology of the diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan; the exchange of visits of the two countries’ presidents, parliament chairs and prime ministers. It shows a copy of the telegram, sent by the Azerbaijani delegation in Tsarigrad (Istanbul) back in 1918 and the attached letter of the Bulgarian Embassy in Tsarigrad concerning the proclamation of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s establishment, as well as the Protocol by which the two countries have decided to establish official relations at Embassy level on June 5th 1992.
The delegation of the Azerbaijan – Bulgaria Friendship group has conferred with the Chairman of the GERB parliamentary group, Krasimir Velchev, and with the President of the Construction Chamber of Bulgaria, Svetoslav Glosov. They also had meetings with the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly, Anastas Anastasov and the leaders of the Social Policy and Labor and the Foreign Policy and Defense Committees.
